But it is also about the Haitian tradition, about the country of birth that one leaves, and about the spells that one must use to love the new country.

Célimène, an orphan, lives with her younger brother Mo. As a peasant's daughter, she knows all the secrets of the rivers, plants and animals. Life goes on as usual until Zaken comes along and asks her to marry him. She leaves her native village to follow her husband. Célimène has many adventures there, and also some surprises. In addition, Zaken has a mysterious relationship with Liya, a phenomenal anaconda.
To survive, Célimène learns to fight and to invent hope. She discovers what exile is: changing countries, changing skin without disappearing.
